Giving makes us greater
Why We Give
God wants us to give because it shows that we recognize he is truly the Lord of our lives.
Your generosity is one way of exercising your faith in God and your love for others. At Greater we believe every decision we make about our finances is a faith decision. It comes from a heart of worship that recognizes that everything we own and everything we give already belongs to Him.
The Old Testament instructed believers to give a tithe, or a tenth, because this 10% represented the first, or most important portion of all they had. The New Testament does not suggest a certain percentage for giving, but says for each to give according to their income. Therefore, tithing is the minimum for those who follow Jesus, believers should strive to give sacrificially; above and beyond the tithe. Simply put, God raises our standard of living so he can raise our standard of giving.
“But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7
Your giving changes lives. We serve Jesus through our giving to improve the quality of life for our entire community. It’s not just in what we say, but what we do, how we live, and how we give.
Your giving equips children and students to become leaders of the next generation, heals marriages, provides food assistance, supports schools in Kenya and propels our vision of a Greater City forward.
